旅游扶贫

To alleviate poverty through tourism

 

 

China aims to alleviate poverty through tourism over the next five years, Premier Li Keqiang said at the First World Conference on Tourism for Development on May 19. The plan is expected to lift 12 million people out of poverty through tourism development.

 

5月19日，国务院总理李克强在出席首届世界旅游发展大会开幕式时表示，中国政府已提出一个目标，即未来五年内通过发展旅游业使1200万人口脱贫。

旅游扶贫，即开发贫困地区的旅游资源（tourism resources），兴办旅游经济实体（tourism business），使旅游业成为支柱产业（pillar industry），实现脱贫。

 

列车运行图

China Railway Corp released a new railway operation diagram on May 15, which shows how the organization plans to increase its passenger and freight train capacity. Under the new plan, 2,100 bullet trains will be running, out of a total of 3,400 passenger trains. The plan also adds more trains between small cities in central and western areas.

 

5月15日，中国铁路总公司公布了新的列车运行图，展示出铁路部门是如何增加其客运/货运列车运力的。在新的运行图中，全国铁路旅客列车开行总数会超过3400对，动车组列车总量达2100余对。同时，新的运行图还大大增加了中西部地区中小城市间的铁路运行。

列车运行图，除了railway operation diagram还可以说railway operating plan。文中提到的passenger and freight train capacity指的是“客运/货运列车运力”。

Maiden voyage

The world’s largest cruise ship, The Harmony of the Seas, finished its maiden voyage from France to Southampton, England, on May 17. At a length of 361 meters, the ship, operated by Royal Caribbean Cruises, dwarfs the famously doomed Titanic, which was only 269 meters long. It contains over 2,500 staterooms, 20 dining venues, 23 swimming pools and a park. Due to its gigantic size, media reports have called it a “floating city”.

 

5月17日，世界最大的邮轮海洋和谐号，完成了从法国到英格兰南安普顿的处女航。海洋和谐号属于皇家加勒比邮轮公司，长度为361米，让269米的泰坦尼克号都相形见绌。邮轮上共有2500个房间、20个餐厅、23个游泳池以及1个公园。由于其体积巨大，媒体在报道中称其为“漂浮的城市”。

Maiden做形容词时意为“首次的”。除了maiden voyage，处女航也可以用inaugural voyage表示，指处安置在水中第一次正式航行。

 

Scare tactic

恐吓战术

 

 

Britain’s treasury published an analysis on May 23, warning citizens that leaving the European Union would tip the nation into a “year-long recession”. But the Vote Leave campaign has accused the government of scare tactics, saying the analysis is not an honest assessment. Britain will stage a referendum on June 23 over whether the country should remain in the EU, despite its often-troubled relationship with the group.

 

5月23日，英国财政部门公布分析结果，告诫英国人民，如果退出欧盟，国家将面临“长达一年的衰退”。但是，“退欧”阵营控诉政府使用“恐吓战术”，认为分析结果并非是诚实可信的评估。6月23日，英国将举行公投，决定是否留在欧盟，英国目前与欧盟的关系并不好。

Scare tactic指“恐吓手段、吓唬人的办法”，是可数名词短语。其他生活中常用的“战术”有：delaying tactics（拖延战术）、hit and run tactics（打了就跑的战术）、psychological tactics（心理战术）、blitz tactics（闪电战术）等。

 

Vanish from the radar

从雷达上消失

 

 

An Airbus A320, en route from Paris to Cairo with 66 people aboard, vanished from the radar early on May 19. The flight, operated by EgyptAir, was confirmed to have crashed in the Mediterranean. Some debris has since been found. But the main body of the plane and the two “black boxes” that record flight data and cockpit transmissions have not yet been located.

 

5月17日，一架由巴黎飞往开罗的空客A320飞机从雷达上消失，客机上载有66人。这家埃及航空的航班已经确认在地中海坠毁，部分残骸随后被发现。但是机身主体以及两个载有飞行数据和驾驶舱信息的黑匣子还没有被定位。

“从雷达上消失”除了vanish，还可以用动词disappear或者drop off （the radar）。飞机“失联”是lose contact。
