1. A same-sex couple received their marriage license Monday in Rowan County, Kentucky, the first since clerk Kim Davis returned to work after being (jailed) for refusing to issue them. Davis said she wouldn’t interfere with deputy clerks handing them out, but that she wouldn’t authorize them.
2. Mount Aso, a volcano in southern Japan erupted, (sending) huge plumes of smoke over 5500 feet into the air. The eruption prompted authorities to raise their alert level for the area, banning people from approaching within 1.25 miles to the volcano.
3. Firefighters in northern (California) seriously battling 2 massive blazes that have burned several hundred homes. At least one person has been killed and 2,300 people have been displaced. Weather conditions may be getting better with higher humidity and showers later this week.
4. Surveillance cameras captured a deer (crashing) into a window and running down the hallways of a hotel in Nebraska. The deer was uninjured and returned to the wild after being trapped in the hotel laundry room.
