From Washington, this is VOA news. A deadly attack on doctors in Nigeria, and a new (commander) for international forces in Afghanistan. I’m Marti Johnson reporting from Washington.
Armed men in northeastern Nigeria have killed three North Korean doctors on a latest attack on health care workers in a country under assault by a radical Islamist sect. Nigerian officials said today that at least two of the doctors had their (throats) cut by unknown assailants who entered their shared department overnight in Yobe State. The Associated Press reported that a third physician was also killed, beheaded in the raid. Hospital officials said the victims were from North Korea and were there as a part of a medical program between the state and North Korea, there has been no claim of responsibility so far, but the area has been (targeted) by Islamist sect Boko Haram, a group that killed hundreds last year in its effort to carve out a Islamic state in Nigeria's Muslim north.
US general Joseph Dunford has assumed command of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, (general) Dunford took charge of the military mission in Afghanistan at a change of command ceremony in Kabul today.Ayaz Gul reports from Islamabad. 英语口语培训
The change of command ceremony took place at the Kabul headquarters of NATO's International Security Assistance Force, General Joseph Dunford assured outgoing commander general John Allen that the coalition will remain focused on (accomplishing) its Afghan mission.

General Dunford will oversee the withdrawal of most foreign (troops) from the country by December of 2014, general Allen in his speech expressed optimism that the achievements Afghanistan has made in the past decade have put the nation on a road to progress.

Iranians are rallying across the country to mark the 34th anniversary of their country's 1979 Islamic revolution that ousted the US-backed Shah and brought hardline Islamic clerics to power. President Mohamoud Ahmadinejad addressed the crowd today in Tehran as demonstrators waved Iranian flags and chanted "death to America" and "death to (Israel)".
Authorities in southern Thailand say suspected militants have killed five soldiers and wounded one other in a car bomb in troubled province of Yala.Police said the bomb was detonated this morning as the troops passed by in a patrol vehicle. Two plantation rebel workers were also injured in the (blast).
The UN Security Council is preparing a report on Somalia and to consider the report from Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon that includes options and recommendations for a future UN role in that country. US special (envoy) to Somalia Augustine Philip Mahiga says the Security Council meeting on the recommendations will take place within the coming week.
In the new reality now, the United Nations has to stand beside and behind the government and to mobilize international resources and support and to use its good offices to (facilitate) the objectives of the country.
