The United Nations Nuclear Agency has returned from Iran with no new agreement on investigating allegations that the country is working to develop (nuclear) weapons. Herman Nackaerts led the International Atomic Agency team in the latest round of talks Wednesday in Tehran. He says he was unable to reach an agreement.
Protesters today fought with police in Bahrain, leaving one person dead. The main opposition group, Al Wefaq, said a teenage boy was shot and killed by police in a predominantly Shi’ite village near the capital, Manama. Bahrain’s interior minister said one person died after being taken to a hospital. The (opposition) groups are calling for a nationwide strike marking the anniversary of an uprising against the country’s Sunni rulers. Bahrain’s government crushed the demonstrations in 2011.
American Airlines, the biggest passenger airline in the United States, has reached an agreement to merge with U.S. Airways, and that creates the world’s largest airline. The boards of the two companies agreed to the (merger) late Wednesday night. A formal announcement is expected today.

"Olympic and Paralympic athlete, Oscar Pistorius, was taken into custody early Thursday for allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend at his home. South African police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale (confirmed) the shooting and said the murder case had been opened. The 26-year-old Pistorius was photographed outside the police station Thursday morning. Police confirmed reports that neighbors heard yelling and shouting at his home at the time of the shooting. Kenyan presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta is seeking a delay in his trial on charges of crimes against (humanity). Kenyatta is one of four Kenyans accused of organizing ethnic violence that followed Kenya’s disputed 2007 election. His trial at the International Criminal Court is due to begin April 11, five weeks after Kenyans cast votes for a new president and parliament.

"Officials in Seoul do not specify the cruise missile’s range, nor have they given it a name. But they say it can strike anywhere at anytime in North Korea. Defense Ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok says the new weapon is extremely destructive and powerful and intended to (restrain) an enemy from carrying out an attack.

A Tibetan monk who set himself on fire in Nepal’s capital apparently to protest Chinese rule has died of his burns. Hospital staff and police in Kathmandu say the man, in his early 20’s, died Wednesday.
Pakistani police say a roadside bomb has hit a vehicle carrying members of an anti-Taliban militia, killing seven militia men in the country’s northwest. Earlier in the city of Bannu, five suicide bombers attacked a police station. A spokesman says three of the attackers died when they detonated their explosives. Police shot two others to death. One police officer was wounded. The Taliban (claimed) responsibility.
A suicide attack in the Russian Caucasus region of Dagestan has killed three police officers and wounded six more at a (security) checkpoint. Another police officer is missing.
Ukrainian officials say a plane skidded past the runway and broke apart, killing five people, injuring several others Wednesday in the eastern city of Donetsk. Forty-five people have been aboard the aircraft when the (pilot) attempted the emergency landing.
Authorities in Mexico say they’ve arrested six men who have confessed to raping Spanish tourists visiting Acapulco.
