India's Home Minister says the government will do all it can to (capture) those responsible for explosions in the Hyderabad area that killed 16 people and wounded more than 100. Sushil Kumar Shinde told (parliament) today those behind the explosions will be punished according to the law. Shinde told reporters there has been a general alert for the entire country for the past three days about the possibility of an attack somewhere in India, but he said there was no (intelligence) about a specific place.
South African Olympic track star Oscar Pistorius has been granted bail as he prepares to face charges of (murdering) his girlfriend. Iraqi officials say gunmen have shot and killed seven members of a government-backed militia near the northern town of Tuz Khurmato. Iraqi police reported the (attack) today, adding an eighth militia member was very seriously wounded. A police officer said gunman dressed in military uniforms gathered the militiamen in a group at a (checkpoint), took them to another area and shot them. Voters are heading to the polls in the eastern African nation of Djibouti where opposition (candidates) are taking part in parliamentary elections for the first time in ten years. France says Malian and French troops killed at least 15 Islamist militants Thursday during fighting to retake government buildings in the northern Malian town of Gao. The Defense Ministry says two French soldiers and four Malian troops were wounded in the fighting, which was centered on the town hall and the mayor's (residence) that had been occupied by the militants. The militants are part of an Islamic group known as the movement for unity and jihad in west Africa.
The Iranian government has dined having any connection to three militants arrested in Nigeria. The militants are alleged to have ties to an Iranian terrorist group that plotted attacks on US and Israeli sites in Nigeria. Iran's (deputy) Foreign Minister said today such allegations were merely the result of poor relations between Iran and the west. He said relations between Iran and Nigeria are, in his words, developing. On Wednesday, Nigerian authorities announced they had arrested three people, and a sect member who is believed to be the leader of the group. He told authorities he (initially) traveled to Iran to study Shi'ite Islamic teachings at a university.
India's Supreme Court has ruled two Italian marines (accused of) murdering two Indian fishermen will be allowed to return home for four weeks. They will vote in Italy's upcoming national elections.
