U.S. President Barack Obama has called on the Israelis and the Palestinians to begin peace talks on core issues of their conflict without waiting for those (disputes) to be resolved in advance.
The Palestinian people (deserve) an end to (occupation) and the daily (indignities) that come with them. Palestinians deserve to move and travel freely and to feel secure in their communities.
Mr. Obama made the appeal today at a joint news conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, the latest stop of his first presidential visit to Israel and the West Bank. Mr. Obama said there is no point of (negotiations) if either of the parties expect that (direct) talks can be held only when everything is settled ahead of time.
Jailed Kurdish Rebel Leader Abdullah Ocalan has called for a (ceasefire) and told his fighters to leave Turkish territory raising hopes that a three-decade (insurgency) can be brought to an end. In a letter read today by a Kurdish lawmaker to hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the city of Diyarbakoir. Ocalan said that it was time for guns to be (silent) and for politics to prevail.
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has ordered an investigation into the Syrian government's (allegation) that rebels use chemical weapons in a rocket attack in the northern city of Aleppo on Tuesday. There is much more to do and this will not happen (overnight). It is obviously a difficult mission. I intend for this investigation to start as soon as practically possible. Again my announcement should serve as an (unequivocal) reminder that the use of chemical weapons is a crime against humanity.

Burma authorities say a nighttime curfew in the town of Meikhtila will remain in place after a second day of violent clashes between Buddhists and Muslims. Hundreds of people rioted Wednesday, setting fire to shops and (damaging) at least two Muslim religious buildings. Local opposition politician Win Htein told VOA's Burmese service the situation was still unstable, despite authorities (declaring) a state of emergency known as Section 144.
