North Korea today suspended entry of South Korean workers into a joint industrial zone just north of the (border).It's the latest sign of rapidly escalating tensions on the (peninsula).Steve Herman reports.
Hundreds of South Korean managers (commute) to the joint factory park just north of the fortified border separating the two Koreas,but those who tried to ride into the Kaesong industrial (complex) Wednesday mourning found they were denied entry permits by the North Koreans.Of the (approximately) 800 South Koreans who had stayed overnight in the zone,about 50 were expected to leave Wednesday with the rest choosing to stay there for now. Although about 125 South Korean companies and factories there,the unique project,which has been producing (household) goods since 2004 is of greater economic value to North Korea,50,000 factory workers are North Koreans.Steve Herman,VOA news,Seoul.英语口语培训
Afghan officials say an hour's long firefight with Taliban militants has ended in western Afghanistan,leaving more than 20 people dead and wounding 72 others,mostly civilians.Authorities say security forces were able to kill all 9 attackers,some 7 hours after they (stormed) the government (compound) in Farah province.According to the provincial police chief, the aim of the attack had been to free Taliban prisoners who are being (transferred) to a court house in the area for trial.

An army spokesman told reporters today that operations against Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army,also known as the LRA were on hold until further notice.Uganda says the Seleka rebels who seized power in the CAR last week are not recognized by the African Union and are not (cooperating) with Ugandan troops (prompting) Wednesday's decision.
