U.S. President Barack Obama is attending an (interfaith) memorial service that's happening before noon today in Boston. The authorities there are working to identity a suspect from a video and photo (evidence) that continues after the Boston Marathon footage yielded a possible breakthrough on Wednesday. Investigators focused on a man seen dropping off a bag and then walking away from the site of the second of two deadly (explosions) Monday that left three people dead and wounded more than 170 others. The images found on (surveillance) footage from a department store near the finish line have not yet been made public. You can read the latest details on this story at voanews.com.
Meanwhile, U.S. investigators say a suspect in Mississippi has been arrested in (connection) with a poisoned letter sent to U.S. President Obama. The FBI said suspect Paul Kevein Curtis was arrested Wednesday in Corinth, Mississippi. However, an FBI intelligence bulletin seen by reporters said the suspect April 8th letter to Mr. Obama and a second one addressed to U.S. Senator Roger Wicker were postmarked in Memphis, Tennessee and (contained) some identical wording. Both letters preliminarily tested positive for ricin, that's a highly poisonous chemical compound that is deadly in (amounts) as small as a grain of salt.英语口语培训
Authorities in Texas say at least five possibly as many as 15 people have been killed in the southwestern U.S. state as a result of Wednesday's (massive) explosion at a fertilizer plant. More than 160 others were injured. Richard Green has more details.
The blast occurred as (firefighters) in the small town of West were trying to (extinguish) a fire at the plant shortly before nightfall. An official with the Texas Department of Public Safety says between 50 to 75 houses near the plant were destroyed. Many residents of the community were (evacuated) including more than 100 elderly residents at a nursing home that was badly (damaged) in the blast. Emergency crews began a house-to-house search of the area to find anyone who may still be trapped. The Pakistani court has rejected the bail request of former President Pervez Musharaf and has ordered his arrest for (dismissing) judges when he was in power in 2007. Police made no immediate move to arrest the former military ruler when he left the Islamabad courtroom today flanked by his (bodyguard). The secretary general of Mr. Musharaf's All Pakistan Muslim League Muhammad Amjad said the former leader's lawyers would lodging (appeal) against the arrest order at the Supreme Court later in the day.

Authorities in United Arab Emirate have arrested seven people they say are part of an al-Qaeda-linked terrorist cell. The official WAM news agency said today that the group was planning to carry out attacks in the UAE as well as to recruit others and (promote) al-Qaeda.
A top health official in China says it's possible that a deadly new strain of bird flu could spread among humans, but cautioned that there's no reason to fear widespread (pandemic). Feng Zijian, is the director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. He says human-to-human (transmission), rather, of the H7N9 strain of the bird flu is possible in theory, though highly sporadic. China has reported 17 deaths since the virus was reported in humans for the first time last month.
