1. Thousands on the Eastern seaboard emerged to a sunny winter's day following a mammoth snow storm that dropped near-recorded (snowfall) across several major U.S cities on Saturday. The number of deaths blamed on the storm had reached at least 29.
2. A magnitude 7.1 earthquake rattled South-Central Alaska early Sunday, knocking items off shelves and walls, and leading (residents) startled in the quake-prone region. No injuries were reported. However, 4 homes in Kenai were lost to explosions or fire.
3. Malaysian authorities cautioned against speculation that a large chunk of mental that washed ashore southern Thailand belonged to a Malaysian (airlines) flight that went missing nearly 2 years ago. Flight MH-370 lost communications before making a sharp turn away from its Beijing destination, when it disappeared in March,2014.
4. And just as officials worked to get their cities back to normal by the new week, locals took advantage of the fresh (powder) for some snow day fun. Some even are going as far as planning coordinated snow ball fights and sledding down the Lincoln Memorial.
